The Eddystone Pursuit is a fun 26 mile sailing marathon for boats of all sizes, from open 60s to regular small keel boats to racing yachts. Run from the Royal Western Yacht Club, it’s a chance to raise money for Morvargh whilst having fun on the water.
Points are gained, not just for our race position but for the amount of sponsorship gained before we start. Those with the highest points win extra money for their chosen charity. We will be taking part with Helen Mary R and will be sailing with a crew consisting of 6 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and 6 adults.
The adult places will be available on a ‘most raised sponsorship’ basis, there is no cost involved in sailing with us and we even provide lunch!. The more you raise in sponsorship the greater your chance of a berth on board! You will need to declare your sponsorship amount 2 weeks prior to the event. No previous sailing experience is required – all we ask is that you bring enthusiasm, a willingness to join in, learn new skills and work together with the rest of the crew.
The Eleanor Creeke Charitable settlement is the major sponsor of this event and donates the annual prize fund which, in addition to the sponsorship has generated a total sum in excess of a third of a million pounds for good causes.
Details for this years Eddystone Pursuit Race are still being finalised, however the provisional race date is Saturday 18th June. For the first time since its inception in 1992 the 2013 event saw an evening celebration being hosted by the National Marine Aquarium where prize giving and the race results were announced and we are sure that the 2014 event will be better again!
