You may have noticed that we've been offline for a while; well we're glad to say that today we've launched our new project website with masses of new features.
Read more...If you're aged between 14-25 we have a sailing voyage for you! All of our voyages are about fun, adventure, learning about yourself and taking on a challenge. No sailing experience is needed to join in!
Our main mission is to help you realise your true potential by sailing on our 57ft Class D Tall Ship, Helen Mary R. We can take up to 12 crew members (called trainees) at a time and most training voyages last for 6 days. Some trips are short local voyages; others may go west to Cornwall or south to France or the Channel Islands, it totally depends on the strength of the crew and of course the weather!
Training voyages generally start on a Tuesday at our base in Plymouth and finish on a Sunday. Our afterguard (the staff onboard) make every crew member a promise: whatever effort and enthusiasm you put into the voyage, we will match and beat.
In Sail Training we don't believe in the word can't, especially when it is used when talking about money. No matter what your background or financial position there are opportunities and bursaries available to you so that you can sail with us. We encourage you to try and raise some of the money yourself, find out how to fund your trip here.
There is nothing stopping anyone taking part in a voyage eventually becoming a volunteer Skipper of Helen Mary R! The only thing stopping you will be your enthusiasm and determination to learn onboard, you will be encouraged to achieve your potential, encouraged to ask questions, and encouraged to try different activities. Just remember, there is no such word as can't onboard just I can!
At the end of the voyage you will be given feedback from your Skipper and a personal development plan to take forward back at home. Please take the time to look through the site to see further pictures of our boat and voyages, find out more about what we can offer, and read comments from previous crews.
Voyages cost £350 and last 6 days, all food, snacks, waterproofs and safety equipment is provided. Bursaries are available for trainees who may struggle finding the voyage fee, have a look at our 'how to fund your trip' page for information on bursaries.
