We have teamed up with the National Marine Aquarium to offer schools and youth groups the chance to investigate the exciting and dynamic environment of Plymouth Sound. Workshops are delivered both at the National Marine Aquarium and by sailing on our Tall Ship, Helen Mary R.
Delivered over two days, the Marine Environment Workshop is designed to be hands-on, experiential learning allowing students to study in a whole different kind of school – a 57ft floating classroom and the National Marine Aquarium's state of the art Aqua Lab. At the end of the workshop teachers and group leaders will be given detailed evaluation materials showing what improvement the students have made and what they have learnt.
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive at the National Marine Aquarium for a hosted tour learning about our marine habitats, Plymouth Sound, it's wildlife and users.
After Lunch
Interactive workshop in the Aqua Lab discussing the environmental aspects of Plymouth Sound and the dangers it faces
Day 2
Arrive onboard our Tall Ship, Helen Mary R and sail into Plymouth Sound. Use the Aquariums remotely operated submarine to investigate the sea bed and to try and spot different marine habitats. Take Plankton samples and investigate using a microscope, disect a fish to understand their physiology.
